The Commerce Police Department did have a very interesting day yesterday, with the shooting incident that left a person dead and resulted in a number of arrests.
When they thought they would catch a break from all the madness, there was a call about a suspicious vehicle entering Commerce on State Highway 11. According to a witness account, the vehicle appeared stolen and the driver was possibly armed and dangerous.
It didn’t take long for a felony traffic stop to be conducted in the 600 block of Culver; and when they did, Commerce ISD Police were placed at A. C. Williams Intermediate School as a precaution. Police pulled over a vehicle pulling a trailer; and, upon further inspection, saw that the vehicle was stolen out of De Soto and the trailer was stolen out of Winnsboro. They also recovered what appeared to be crystal methampethamines; and other drugs thrown out on State Highway 11 were also recovered by police.
In the end, a 34-year-old Sulphur Springs man and a 36-year-old Deport woman, identities withheld, were arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a controlled substance.
